Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich”, describes the sixth sense as the “apex of the philosophy”. His philosophy, as explained through thirteen steps toward riches, ends with this dramatic step. Mastery of this step, he warns, is only possible through the understanding and application of the previous twelve.

To review for a moment, the twelfth step, the brain, he states, is similar to a “broadcasting and receiving” station. The receiving function receives thoughts and this he calls “Creative Intelligence”.

This is also known as the sixth sense. There is no “organ” in the human body that performs this function but nonetheless there is indisputable evidence of its presence.

The evidence offered is the intangible but familiar things such as totally novel ideas that suddenly come to mind, “hunches” that are just a “feeling” or an artist’s inspiration. These are intangibles that appear seemingly “out of the blue” and may appear to have no basis for their existence.

It is Napoleon Hill’s opinion that this sense was the working of “Infinite Intelligence”. This, he explains, is the power or force that makes possible and maintains the order of the universe. This is the power that transmutes, or changes, thought into its physical reality.

For those not yet familiar with “Think and Grow Rich”, this may be a bit overwhelming.

Mr. Hill also notes that use of the sixth sense is available to all who are willing to accept and use the previous twelve steps even if they do not agree completely with him on all details.

How is this sense of benefit in growing riches?

To quote the author, “Then you will be in position to transmute your desires into their physical or financial counterpart as easily as you may lie down and quit at the first sign of opposition”.

We need to understand also that riches to Napoleon Hill included more than money. Riches were interpreted as not only money but the understanding of, self, others, laws of nature, recognition and happiness.

The real benefit is in possessing the power to overcome discouragement, fear, procrastination, etc.; anything that hinders us.

Mr. Hill describes this power as, “that unknown something which has been the moving spirit of every truly great thinker, leader, artist, musician, writer and statesman”.
